In this talk, I will provide an overview of the different research activities in our lab, in particular focusing on different aspect of communication. Historically, significant research has been done in large-scale off-chip networks and recently, there has been significant work done on on-chip networks. Each interconnection networks have different constraints and as a result, the resulting architectures can be different while still sharing some similarities. In this talk, we will explore how we can apply interconnection networks to other domains, including the design of a memory network. In addition, we will look at how a transportation network is designed and how that can be leveraged in the design of a network. I will also discuss how computer/mobile systems can be leveraged to improve "communication."
John Kim is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at KAIST. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University and his B.S. and M.Eng from Cornell University. His research interest includes multicore architecture, interconnection networks, and datacenter architecture. Some of his research in high-radix networks has directly impacted the interconnection networks used in Cray systems. Prior to graduate school, he worked on the design of several microprocessors at Motorola and Intel.
