The widespread dissemination of mobile devices has enabled pervasive sensing environments that help characterizing a user or even crowd’s contexts in diverse situation. In particular, smartphone is an appropriate device to infer user context, because the frequent interactions among the user, the device, and the surroundings can easily be collected using various kinds of embedded sensors in the device. This talk will discuss various issues on smartphone-based mobile sensing techniques that are essential for the development of collaborative and energy-efficient mobile/crowd-sensing applications.
Hojung Cha received the B.S. and M.S. degree in computer engineering from the Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, in 1985 and 1987, respectively. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Manchester in 1991. He is currently a professor at the Department of Computer Science, Yonsei University, Korea. His research interests include operating systems, energy-efficient mobile embedded systems, mobile sensing systems, and context-aware pervasive computing.
